In February 2011, Ms Nicola Sturgeon, Deputy First Minister of Scotland hosted a meeting with Chinese representatives in Scotland at the Scottish Parliament. YCP as the representative of the professional community participated in the event, which aimed to raise the profile of Chinese community among the Scottish politicians and awareness of the level of integration Chinese community has already established within the Scottish society. Our YCP representative Xinting Liu, former Education Officer of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland raised the issue of the need to further strengthen the local collaboration between peoples of Scotland and China through teaching of Chinese at Scottish schools and Chinese language schools.
The event has given YCP the opportunity to take further steps in fostering this objective and to build upon our strong partnerships with our Chinese education professionals in Scotland and local organisations in teaching Chinese. Our YCP Seminars 'My Experience in China' 2012/13 will also help to bring insights of China work experience to Scottish schools. A special YCP Trophy to promote artistic sharing of learning Mandarin is on its way from Taiwan with its competition to be launched at the Scotland China Youth Summit in November 2012. In addition, with the kind help from members of the Scottish Parliament in particular Mr Humza Yousaf, we are currently developing the YCP Parliamentary Internship for Chinese students and researchers and are in talks with the Scottish Government's China Team on the development of the new China Plan.
We would like to thank Ms Sturgeon for her kind invitation and Ms Giles for organising this event.
